thank

verb + object + preposition + doing

I don't know how to thank you for giving my daughter an opportunity to stay with your family.
（娘にホームステイの機会を与えていただき、お礼のことばもありません）

think

verb + preposition + doing

I'm thinking of going to New Zealand to teach Japanese at a university.
（ニュージーランドへ行ってどこかの大学で日本語を教えようかと思っています）

threaten

verb + to do

He threatened to beat me if I didn't obey.
（彼は私が言うことをきかなければ殴るぞとおどした）

try

verb + to do

The players tried to stay in good shape.
（選手たちはよいコンディションを保つように努めた）

verb + doing

Since the motor didn't start, he tried giving it a kick.
（モーターが動かなかったので彼はけってみた）

* try to do（…しようと努める）とtry doing（試しに…してみる）の意味の違いに注意。

want

verb + to do

I've been wanting to see you.
（ずっとお会いしたいと思っていました）

* wantは通例進行形で用いませんが、例文中の現在完了進行形は継続を強調する特殊なケースです。

verb + object + to do

Do you want me to drive you to the station?
（駅まで車で送っていこうか）

warn

verb + object + to do

The police department warned people in the city not to go out of their homes.
（警察当局は市民に外出しないよう警告した）

verb + object + preposition + doing

The policeman warned him against driving so fast.
（警官は彼にあまり車のスピードを出さないようにと警告した）
